Well boys and girls: it's been a while since we've posted anything here.
DCC, however, is right on schedule. Super! Then we'll have lots to talk
about. It's been a busy year for gold reissues, so here are the highlights:

- ELVIS IS BACK! (GZS-1111) Check out the bass guitar and finger snaps on
"Fever," the woodwinds and false starts of "Such A Night," and the acoustic
guitar and ride cymbal of "Reconsider Baby."
- ELVIS 24 KARAT HITS (GZS-1117) Just listen to the guitar of "Don't Be Cruel," the snare drum on "Hound Dog," and the bass and guitar on "Little Sister." But the lead and backup vocals are what really shine on this disc. It's even got the original "Suspicious Minds," complete with horns and false endings! If you only buy two Elvis discs, these are the ones.
- THE ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS OF ROY ORBISON (GZS-1118) Many of the songs on this CD were recorded and mixed by the same genius who engineered Elvis' 70's live shows, Bill Porter. Although I'm not too familiar with Orby's current catalog on CD, I see no reason to look beyond here for his most popular songs.
- THE STEVE MILLER BAND GREATEST HITS, 1974-78 (GZS-1103) This is the third Miller release from DCC, and just might be the best of the lot. From the beginning, the reverb on the drums of "Swing Town" has never had better definition. Or the trademark Fender sound and handclaps on "Take The Money And Run," even the wah pedal on "The Joker" are all well worth the price of admission.
- DEEP PURPLE - MADE IN JAPAN (GZS-1120) Last but not least, this first DCC Deep Purple release may also be the first Warner Brothers title to be issued on gold disc. So be a part of history, and run out and buy one of the best live albums of the 70's, in best-ever sound. For hardcore fans...one needs to seek out the reissued import as well. While not ranking as high on the audiophile scale, it features a second disc of three unreleased encores from Osaka and Tokyo. The Purp have a different deal overseas, so look for the import on EMI and not on Warners or DCC.
So until next time kiddies, save your pennies because the DOOBIE BROTHERS
GREATEST HITS, THE EAGLES GREATEST HITS, VOLUME TWO, and a compilation of
early Hendrix' material are all on the slate for summer. Unit then, other
DCC titles of note include: JOHN COLTRANE LUSH LIFE (GZS-1108), NAT KING
COLE'S THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU (GSZ-1119), and Nilsson's THE POINT
SOUNDTRACK (DZS-158) and HARRY (DZS-155). All but Coltrane feature bonus
material, and the Nilsson CDs are aluminum, and quite the bargain at budget
list price. See your favorite retailer, or order direct from DCC: 1-800-
301-MUSI(C).
